Each week my partner Lori and I travel to a high school to observe/teach at our field assignment. Over this semester it's been a great experience learning more and more each time we go. Something I found very interesting was that their students are required to wear heart rate monitors 3 days a week or be in their heart rate zone for a specific amount of time each week. This is a type of way they grade the students as well as keep their attendance. If students do not complete the specified time they must be in for the week it results in a lower grade. Although, they may make up days if they wish. I think that this is a great way to get students motivated while incorporating a tool that is very educational.

For the class 352 it is reqluired for each student to complte volunteer hours at the Grove City YMCA. After health class today I decided to go with some classmates to fill our hours. It's a lot of fun playing games and interacting witht he kids there. It's not that often that we get experience in our field to just play games with our students and not teach them direclty. I feel like when we go to the Y the kids there are so excited to see us and have us be there with them. Most of the kids there already choose to be there and enjoy the time they spend while others need a bit more motivation to get up and move. It's awesome to see all the kids having fun with one another along with us SRU students as well. I really enjoy teaching in a school setting to younger children but it's a complete different experience to actually just play, letting the students choose and have more of a say so in what they're doing and not have to instruct them.

This morning I arrived at the Tennis Courts for Net/Wall class at 8 a.m. The sun was shinging high in the sky and it seemed to create a good atmosphere and a good day for everyone. There were two students who taught 20 minute lessons. Their lessons were very well thought out and presented to us. I took notes on their lessons and decided to use their lessons as activities in my motor task collection final project for this class. It's so helpful to watch and listen to fellow classmates teach their lessons and learn from our peers. Our classmates have many good ideas and can be very helpful when it comes to designing our own lesson plans for our experience now in college, student teaching, or in a future job.

Each Thursday my partner Lori and I report to our assigned field placement for our 352 class. Today we were instructed to have a lesson designed for badminton games. We decided to start the class with a modified version of badminton. There were no rackets involved and instead of a shuttlecock we used a hackey sack. The object of the game was to play against each other in teams of three using any body part except for the hands to send the hackey sack over the net to the opposing team. If the students couldn't do this successfully they could add their hands in to get the game going. There could be a total of 4 hits on each side before sending the hackey sack over the net. The next game we chose was called ping tin. It is very similar to badminton except that it uses a shuttlecock and ping pong paddles instead of a racket. Last we used badminton rackets and played regular badminton. Out of the two classes the students opinions were very different. The first class highly dislike using the hackey sacks and ping pong paddles while the second class really liked it and had a lot of fun with it.After today I realized that the students in the class make the classroom atmosphere difficult to work with. Make modifications and keep students positive giving them challenges and keep them on track and focused on the lesson.
